Is Your Light Deployed in Darkness?

Sunday night begins the Feast of Lights (Dedication - Hanukkah) and the context for the throwdown-clash between Light and Dark, Jesus and the inquisition in John 10.
The inquisitors were so alarmed at the words of Jesus that they took up stones to execute Him then and there.

But while rebuking them, He spoke words of encouragement to us: That we, His sheep, hear, follow, and are.
We hear His Voice - not that of religion, culture, tradition, or the voice of the enemy.

And so we follow Him - not our fears, feelings, cultural pressures, or other's expectations.
And we are Father's gift to Jesus, with life eternal, and hidden in Him.

Yet here is the rub: We are hidden in Him so that we are NOT hidden as His Light in the world.
For indeed, just as He is the Light (John 6,) we are the light and not to be kept under the cover of a bushel. (Mt 5)

And here is a critical point: No one brings a megawatt flashlight to a picnic on a bright, sunny day. That's silly and superfluous.
But bring it to a dark, dank, dingy cave (where you can't see your hand in front of your face,) and it changes everything.
The greater the night, the brighter the light.
As we enter the time of the Feast of Lights, ask Him to show you the darkness that needs your light.
We hear, we follow, we are hidden in Him, and we are His Light.
Be rightly deployed to shine in the darkness.
